Special Purpose Machines (SPM)
They are those machines for which the setting operation is practically eliminated and complete automation is achieved. This greatly reduces the cost and the cycle time (the actual production time) of a component.
Special Purpose Machines are generally used for mass production, which are more expensive compared to General Purpose Machines, since they are specifically designed for the given application, but also restrictive in application and capability.
Examples are cam shaft grinding machine and piston turning lathe.
